The most difficult body type to gain weight is called a hardgainer. These people workout just as hard and as long as everyone else does but can't seem to put on much weight or strength. Most of them don't realize they are hardgainers and therefore don't even look for a workout catered to their needs.
Hardgainers's muscles recover at a much slower pace than everyone else's do. This means they need a workout that affords them more rest in between lifts. Most workouts make them lift too often which overstrains the muscle. When they lift with a tired muscle, it actually weakens the muscle as well as making the body more susceptible to injury and illness.
Hardgainers need a workout routine that lets them rest these muscles. A great routine consists of only a few hours in the gym each week. Each session should not last longer than an hour. If it does last longer, the muscles will be overtrained and the recovery time will be much longer. This will only allow you to work out once or twice a week instead of the recommended 3 or 4 times.
